West Virginia voters may vote in-person or absentee this November

West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner announced Monday all registered voters in the state may take advantage of either in-person or absentee-by-mail voting options for the November General Election.

“West Virginia voters should never have to choose between their health and their right to vote,” Warner said Monday in a news release. “Let me be very clear. Any voter concerned about their health and safety because of COVID-19 will have the option to vote by absentee ballot.”

West Virginia remains under a “safer-at-home order” because of COVID-19 concerns, and the governor recommends individuals stay home unless engaging in essential activities. Under current absentee laws, all voters confined to their home during the in-person voting period because of coronavirus concerns can apply to their county clerk for an absentee ballot, the release said.

To receive an absentee ballot, voters must select “illness, injury or other medical reason which keeps me confined” as the reason for completing an absentee ballot application.
